How was the transition process to WIA? Thoughts on the impact of the merger? The transition was a lot more than even with the best guesses couldn’t be imagined. Even though both organizations had a lot in common they still were two independent organizations with built in traditions and viewpoints. I truly believe the team assembled to do this was paramount in the success, as it had been tried before and failed. If you want to say the stars aligned and the right EC was in place, Mike Deese, Fred, and team were the ingredients needed to make it happen. The goal was clear and this team was committed to seeing it through.
The overwhelming reason SMG was selected was Fred Stringfellow and his experience and history with the industry and with both organizations. And to be honest at the time it was a hill that the WMMA was willing to die on as they were convinced that he was needed to make this merger successful. The confidence and value they placed in Fred to lead us through this challenge was unshakable. Now that we are well into this merger I fully agree and understand the reason they were so strong on this point. Fred and his team has been an incredible asset to the merged organization and the value they bring to the success of our organization is unmeasurable. Looking back I am convinced we would not be this successful and where we are without SMG’s leadership and support.
